Strikes Loom That Could Hurt Retail Christmas Sales

According to the Fair Work Australia data, many legally protected strikes are in the pipeline. Industries involved include transportation, construction, manufacturing and nursing.

Action in transportation companies could disrupt retailers at the busiest time of the year causing them more problems in an already difficult time. There are warnings that unions are pushing the limits of the Fair Work laws to win new conditions across the sector.   Statistics show a 20 per cent increase in working days lost to strikes in the past year. 144,100 days lost to September.
